The Ceremony – The reason you’re here

So you’re dressed to the nines, your guests have arrived, and it’s time to get married!

If there’s one part of your wedding day you want filmed absolutely perfectly, it’s your ceremony. It’s what everyone at the wedding has been waiting for – that once-in-a-lifetime moment where you look into your partner’s eyes, place a ring on their finger, and, just like that, you’re hitched.

Whether you’re in a church, a synagogue or on a beach, here are some useful tips to make sure you’ll remember that moment forever.

You can almost feel the excitement as your guests look to the two of you, ears pricked, to hear the words they’ve all come to hear.

“I do!” “Mazeltov!” “You may now kiss your bride!”

The power of those words is incredible, and you’ll want to hear them loud and clear every time you watch your video with family and friends. That’s why we take sound so seriously – it’s the one part of your wedding film that’s often overlooked, but is probably one of the most important things to get right.

To get the best sound you need the best equipment, the skills to use it, and experience to put it all together no matter where you’re filming. You’ll notice we take great care on the day to place wireless microphones wherever we need to get good audio – on the priest or celebrant, inside the groom’s suit, and often on the main speakers and microphones used for the ceremony.

Here’s some sound advice – check with your celebrant beforehand that they’re OK with us placing our unobtrusive microphones in all these places, and on their person as well. Some celebrants wrongly believe these microphones cause interference with their own audio systems; if they resist, please let us know and we’ll be happy to put them at ease. Remember, it’s your day, and we want to make sure you get the audio your wedding film deserves.

Now that we’ve sounded out the audio, let’s talk picture. We want your ceremony to look as great as it sounds. Most ceremonies are made up of many different moving parts – your expressions, your bridal party, the celebrant, your guests, the beautiful setting. You’ll want to see every smile, every tear, every laugh. That’s why we use multiple cameras to film it all, so you don’t miss a thing.

That said, here’s some food for thought. You may have heard of the term ‘unplugged wedding’. Basically it means asking your guests to be present with you, rather that trying to film or photograph the ceremony for themselves. Firstly, that’s what we’re there for, and chances are you hired us because we’ll film it better than they can. And secondly, there’s nothing more distracting at a wedding ceremony than guests vying for position to get better photos, or camera clicks going off when you say your vows.

Encouraging your guests to put their cameras away and enjoy the moment with you is half the battle won to getting great moments on film. Of course, we’re not the wedding police, so no matter how your guests behave, we’ll be sure to make the best possible film for you.

You might also want to make a plan if rain or wind might be a factor on the day. This is particularly important if you’re getting married outdoors, and if you don’t have a wet-weather plan, you may just get caught cold. We’ll work with you to make sure no matter what the weather, your wedding film will shine.

Finally, think of how you want to appear on your film before the big day comes. Nowhere is this more important than the ceremony, where you practice – and often rehearse – as you would for a movie or play. If you learn your lines rather than repeat them after the celebrant you’ll appear more confident and composed, and that will show in the film. A little practice goes a long way.

On a day of big moments, your ceremony is probably the biggest of them all. No matter how or where you get married, we’ll be there to make sure you hear every word and see each emotion, forever. Thanks for watching.
